Carlos passed away on August 15th, 2008, leaving behind a body of work that was both stunning and inspiring. He started his career in comics back in 1974, and quickly became a recognized visionary in Argentina and Spain. Together with Carlos Trillo, he created IRISH COFFEE and the long running CYBERSIX, which ran well over 2400 pages and inspired both a live action television and animated series. While greatly respected in South America and Europe, his work in the states had trouble gaining a solid following. And that is a tremendous shame. His work on SUPERMAN, STAR WARS, SPYBOY, WILDCATS, ELEKTRA, and MONSTER WORLD should have made him a rockstar here in the states. But apparently the states just weren't ready for his dynamic, animated style. His most recent works have been focused on a European market, including CANARI and the posthumously released RED SONG.
Having worked with Carlos on two books (STAR WARS: UNDERWORLD and SUPERMAN: INFINITE CITY), I was crushed by the news of his death. He was such an inspiration, and his artwork made even the most mundane story element seem fantastic. Hopefully, this DA site will bring new fans to his work. I don't have much that hasn't already been scanned or printed, but if anyone has sketches, doodles, etc that they'd like to contribute, please email me.
